Danny Allen

Who I Am

I am Danny Allen, a Great British full-stack web developer.

I have lived and studied in the United Kingdom and United States, and worked all over the place.

I have a few awards and acclaim to my name.

But ultimately, my CV and Work speak for themselves and tell my story better than any text here could.

A Little About Me

I have over 2 years of full-time commercial web / PHP development experience, though to judge me on this metric alone undersells my skills: I live and breathe web technology, and have over 8 solid years of projects and experiments that I have passionately developed in my own time, and I also do paid freelance work from time to time. Take a look at my work for a varied selection of my work.

I combine a range of web technologies to create compelling user experiences, often using AJAX techniques to enhance interactivity and responsiveness. As a UI specialist, I contribute heavily throughout the whole development cycle, starting with the gathering of requirements from various stakeholders through to the mockup, consultation, and then implementation and testing stages. I am skilled at converting design proofs from graphics designers to pixel-perfect HTML / CSS.

Essentially, I am the complete web developer, since further to my user interface expertise (using valid XHTML + CSS 3 and Javascript) I also have a solid grounding in PHP 5 (procedural and object-oriented) which I program in daily, and am familiar with Linux systems, using it as my primary desktop system for over 5 years, and managing my own VPS web server.

I am very talented, learn quickly, and have a strong attention to detail. I have a passion for design and technology, especially interesting combinations of the two, and keep up with developments in my field. I have recently experimented with non-traditional, cutting edge technologies such as MongoDB, Cherokee web server, and Varnish caching to good effect. I have also started and manage my own open source web project: this means that you can judge the quality of my work for yourself at https://github.com/dannyakakong/Enzyme

Outside of work, I love listening to music, going to the cinema and nights out with friends. I love to create things. This is shown not least by my long-term voluntary contributions to the KDE open source project. Aside from software, I also build real world things like my dance arcade machine (photos available on request!). Also available on request are more samples of my interface designs, further examples of my work, and a larger list of my achievements.
